I currently am finding myself disliking the negative post rating system on here immensely for a few reasons.

• I feel that it is bein mis-used by some people on these forums
  
• When a good poster gets negative marks it doesn't encourage them to post again
  
• I think it can be finetuned

My first reason for disliking the system is that good posts that actually add to a conversation or are seeking help are being marked down.

This post may be written in bad grammar, but it's from a guy seeking help and I question why the post is currently marked at -2.

I'm living evidence of the second point. My intro posts are both currently at -1, the second post is slightly off-topic but it was answering a question, the first post however was quite a decent intro and after reading I don't understand why anyone would mark it down. I'm either being targeted because I'm the leader of another fansite, or someone thinks it's funny to abuse the system.

If you don't want to remove the negative ratings, can I please suggest that it only be used by Elite Orbsters and above because I feel they can be trusted more. We Orblings can just have positive ratings or none at all. Alternatively I can send you guys a hook that requires members to leave a reason and this is then displayed in the users profile, if I'm being marked down for something, it'll be nice to know why then I can change my posting habits.



After writing this I realise the irony will be this post going into the negative ratings itself, please, prove me wrong!

I think the reason your posts are randomly being marked down is the leader thing. That position doesn't really bode well on another fansite, since it kinda gives people the impression that you think your fansite is better. In some cases it may well be true, but obviously it's not going to be liked. If Curt were to join OrbSome a similar thing might happen to him.

Don't get me wrong, I don't do that. In fact I have never even given any post a rating yet.

I certainly don't think that, all fansites offer a different experience so it's good to view them all. It may not be supported but I was a member of PlanetFunorb for awhile.

I too don't use the ratings system unless I'm neutralising posts that I think have been wrongly marked down. Thanks for your input 19118219.

Although the reason the guy in your quote has a negative rating is because he makes absolutely no sence in the chatbox, asks the same thing over and over again, generrally annoys everyone (Like that week where he asked about the orb coins thingy everytime he was on)

Not sure why you have negative though.

Thanks for the feedback Powdinet, I know what your on about that there, which is why I agree with Shadios status box feedback. Just to say that one persons done something wrong somewhere though doesn't mean all his posts should be marked down.

People are using the forum rating as a game. For Instance, If someone has a low rating, it seems that people continue to lower their rating for "fun". I was actually complaining about Dr. Evil getting a negative rating for asking a question in the chatbawks, not sure if you were there. Users that don't like other users are also negatively rating their posts, even if they are quality.

I personally rate posts based off relevance (and an occasional negative for extreme grammar cases where the guy posting really needs help. An allusion to this is if an artist paints a tree that looks nothing like a tree; it's okay if he knows why he's doing it like that and if he can actually paint a good tree), not for another reason. However, I'm not being irresponsible when doing it; I may only be an Orbling, but I feel that a post requirement on rating isn't fair; there isn't enough activity for me to get to Elite rather quickly, and I've been a part of this site almost 9 months. Time in here should be a good factor. I too agree with you for having to provide a reason for a rating; I'd love to know why I'm being rated, and on what post I'm being rated badly on.

Wow, Nice job blaming me for your reputation when I clearly stated earlier that I never rate anything.

Get your facts straight before attacking me or anyone else.

I don't hate you. I rate based on relevance, and not for games. I don't see any point in changing the system, possibly adding a comment part to the ratings system as for WHY you rated the post like that.

Actually I support that idea. It will clear up some confusion for those with poor ratings and also help them cure it.

'Hate' is a rather strong word to use here, isn't it? If you ask me, it really should be impossible to hate a person you haven't even met in person.

Anyway, to those that are abusing the system, it really is just childish and immature. They're probably doing it because they know they can't be traced doing it...making it mandatory to give a reason as to why you're rating a post negatively, thereby removing the anonymity, would be a good thing.
