OrbMore Client Beta Opening

Posted 6/2/2010 8:55:45 AM by Lord Eyrie

Here it is, at last. Two months of work have been spent on this so far, and many more are to come, probably.

The beta is completely public, meaning everyone is free to use it. It should work in every browser, although some might experience a few bugs. The reason behind this beta: we want you to tell us what functions it should have, because you'll be the ones using it.

For the sake of keeping this a bit tidy, there will be separate threads for bugs and suggestions. So please, don't post them on this thread :)

Have fun: OrbMore Client

P.S. If you haven't yet, it's still very useful for us to fill in the questionnaire!

Poll #4 - Should Jagex focus more on the mobile game market in the future? - Results

Posted 19/1/2010 6:05:06 PM by Papeh

Here's the lowdown:

There were 226 votes total - 168 guest votes and 58 member votes.

The results (from highest to lowest):

Yes, but they should focus more on the computer-based versions - 100 votes, 44.2%
No - 73 votes, 32.3%
Definitely! Mobile games are the future! - 31 votes, 13.7%
Maybe / Undecided - 22 votes, 9.7%

This was sparked off of the whole fiasco around Bouncedown for the iPhone. While it seems that the general consensus is to stay focused on browser games, mobile games in the future may not be so distant.

NEW POLL:

Do you think the War of Legends micropayment system will come to FunOrb?

- Yes! Microtransations are great!
- Probably, but I would not like it.
- I don't know, it's to early to say.
- No, but I'd like it to.
- It had better not!

Achievement Search improved

Posted 13/12/2009 12:50:16 AM by Papeh

Didn't know we had an ADB search before, did you? ;)

Previously, we had tried to implement a search for the ADB, our efforts in vain. One day, for the use of the "[ achievement ]" tag, I made a simple script that could be used to link to achievements easily on the chatbox and forums. For this to work, you had to get punctuation and spacing right - which might get confusing for Achievement: Wise, Aged Master Monk, for example.

Now I've actually made it into a mini-search engine type of thing - as long as you spell the phrase / word right, the script will find the achievement for you (meaning "Polar Prince" is the same as "pOlArPrinCE@%%%@#*%*&" and so forth). If it can't find the achievement, it will give you a nifty little page with a search box - much improved from the old one, which basically said "GO TO THE ADB TO FIND IT".

Also, if you stumble upon an achievement like Achievement: Winning Streak with two achievements sharing the name, it will give you the option to choose which you want to see, instead of the old way, which was to show you the one that was submitted first. This will also work for any new double or triple-named achievements.

And now, the search is actually accessible as a search! On all the Achievements Database pages, there is a little box for you to search for achievements.

It is not super-intuitive like Google, but I think it serves its purpose fairly well.

Poll #3 - What is the upcoming game you are looking forward to the most? - Results

Posted 4/12/2009 7:52:58 PM by Papeh

We left that up for a while :P Sorry about that.

Luckily, none of the games were released in that time, so the results are still legitimate. There was also a bug that I fixed that made the "total" number stay at 127 and mess up the percentages. But its fixed now, and all is as it should be :)

There were 289 votes total - 212 guest votes and 77 member votes

The results (from highest to lowest):

Orb Defense Mutliplayer - 85 votes, 29.4%
Pirate Empires - 80 votes, 27.7%
Bachelor Fridge - 57 votes, 19.7%
Haxxors - 29 votes, 10%
Dungeon Assault II - 21 votes, 7.3%
Another suspected game - 17 votes, 5.9%

It's up to you to interpret what these mean.

The next poll:

Should Jagex focus more on the mobile game market in the future?

- Definitely! Mobile games are the future!
- Yes, but they should focus more on the computer-based versions
- Maybe / Undecided
- No

Enjooooy!
